Birthday Party for Amos!

A family photo! Astute observers will note that Eric is FaceTiming with his mom, whose face is on the phone.
Birthday boy!

Birthday crown!

Jessa made this magnificent cake. We had the party at Mellow Mushroom, where we took Amos on opening night when he was just over 48 hours old. They were having their 1-year anniversary celebration, Alice in Wonderland themed, so we piggybacked Amos' party.

Crawling around the patio.
We made birthday hats. Look at all the mad hatters!

There was a caricature artist. We got both boys' portraits done.

Thinking about walking for his birthday.

Opening a birthday card.
Right before blowing the candle out.

This lady was pretty cool. The kids couldn't get over how tall she was.
Babyville.
Brothers.
General party chaos.
More mad hatting.

Mushrooms on the cake, since we were holding the party at the Mellow Mushroom.

He made quite a cake mess.
Surprised cake face.
A field of cake destruction.
Gnawing on the fork.
Eli lent a hand.
He soon turned his wrath on the crown.
Crown off.
More cake!
Surprised cake face.
Gimme that camera!
Amos kept at it for a while.

Amos opened lots of good presents! Unfortunately Eli has taken over this one.
Birthdays are exhausting.

Amos' Almost Half Birthday!

Sweet Amos Mouse is 6 months old! Well...he's slightly less than six months, but seeing as how this year leaps, and there is no Feb. 29, we had to make it work. (Ooops, got a picture of the ugly side of the cake).
Now the pretty side! That is not a ponytail skull cake...it's a mouse cake! Get it: >1/2?
Amos' party guests: Andrew, Katie, and blue icing covered Eli!
Eli : Harry :: Amos : Jelly Mouse! Jelly Mouse diligently watches over our sleeping boy.
What a good mouse.

Cake Pride

This is a little late - but I wanted to post a picture of the cake I made for Eli's birthday. I was super proud of it. Eli beamed with joy when it was presented to him. What a triumph!

Birthday Wrap Up

Eli and I have had a wonderful 1st birthday! We stayed around the house and played. He took two sweet little naps (rare these days) so I could get some work done. We had two nice rain showers, complete with some thunder. Mostly, we just celebrated the existence of Eli.
Man, this is the best photo ever. That's one pleased little goof.
Look at that one-year-old (in conductor pants, just in case a train comes by).
Once Dad got home, we had a quick dinner. After a few bites, Eli began to reject the veggie and pasta mush. I guess he saw the cake on the counter.
First Birthday Carrot Cake!
Exciting!
He never did dig in. He took tiny bird bites, but enough to make a fine green mess and get a nice sugar high.
So, the birthday was a sweet one. Thanks to all of the loved ones who sent happy birthday emails, wishes, goodies, text messages, and voice mail serenades. We love you all. Eli is now up 32 minutes past his bedtime, with permanently green fingers and cheeks, and skittering all over the living room like never before. The sugar has definitely kicked in.

Now, as an Eli's birthday gift to all of you - see him take some steps! He has walked up to six steps at a time! But in this video, he takes just two. He usually get's hip to it once we get started, and starts just jumping and playing instead of walking. But, it's all so fun, we love it!
